Course Description
This 3-day course is approved by the Interservice Environmental Education Review Board (ISEERB) and provides basic knowledge, skills, tools and techniques in risk communication fundamentals and processes to effectively communicate environmental issues to stakeholders of diverse interests and backgrounds. The workshop presents guidance on how to develop a proactive program to establish and maintain a sound relationship with stakeholders through dialogue based on mutual trust and credibility. Instruction focuses on how to have open discussions on complex environmental issues, establish confidence in communicating key messages, improve verbal and nonverbal communication skills and revitalize stakeholder dialogue. This course was developed in coordination with the Tri-Service Risk Assessment workgroup and is approved by the Interservice Environmental Education Review Board (ISEERB).

Personnel Eligible
Military and civilian personnel responsible for communicating health and environmental risk management issues to public, regulatory and/or media stakeholders including remedial project managers, BRAC Environmental Coordinators, Base Closure Team members, installation environmental program managers, technical experts, engineers, scientists, health and safety personnel, natural resource personnel, environmental planners, public affairs officers, commanding officers, executive staff and attorneys. DoD contractors, federal, state and local regulators are welcome by invitation on a space available basis.
