Three Pronged Approach

Army?s Three-Pronged Approach to Addressing PFAS includes Testing Drinking Water, cleaning up Past Releases, and mitigating the use of Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF)
Test Drinking Water ? By the end of 2016, the Army completed PFOS/PFOA testing of the drinking water supplied to Army installations to identify potential exposure to PFOS/PFOA in drinking water above the EPA health advisory (HA) levels. Where exceedances of the HA levels are found, the Army immediately takes appropriate actions to mitigate exposure above the HA levels, provide alternate water and ensure the levels in drinking water are promptly reduced below the HA levels (for example, by providing bottled water, shutting down wells, installing treatment systems or connecting to municipal water). ? Where the Army purchases drinking water from non-Army drinking water suppliers that conduct testing, the Army obtains copies of the PFOS/PFOA results. For the non-Army drinking water suppliers that do not conduct testing for PFOS/PFOA, the Army samples the drinking water and maintains a record of the results. ? Where the Army purchases drinking water from a local municipal drinking water supplier, information on PFOS/PFOA in the water is available in the municipal supplier
