2018 NALEMP Biennial Meeting, April 17 - 19. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Environment, Safety and Occupational Health, Maureen Sullivan travelled to Albuquerque, New Mexico with Incoming DoD Senior Advisor and Liaison for Native American Affairs Alicia Sylvester to host and participate in the 2018 Biennial Meeting of the Native American Lands Environmental Mitigation Program. They met with over fifty American Indian/Alaska Native and federal partners in NALEMP to discuss audit readiness, mitigation of culturally-connected lands managed by other federal agencies, periods-of-performance for Cooperative Agreements, and opportunities to enhance the efficiency of program implementation and communication among partners. In addition, the meeting participants visited Pueblo of Isleta lands and toured portions of the former Kirtland Prevision Bombing Range-related site to review the progress of environmental mitigation work to address munitions debris left on tribal lands.
