This one page summary describes a project that in cooperation with the Virginia Department of Historic Resources (VDHR), developed scientific standards of significance for historic period archaeological sites that date from 1830 to 1914 on the Coastal Plain of Virginia. This study is reviewing the relevant archaeological research conducted on the Coastal Plain of Virginia (both academic and that driven by compliance needs) and determining the current state of knowledge. This will allow sites on DoD installations within the Coastal Plain of Virginia to view the historic period archaeological sites under their control within a larger context.

Published in 1995, this report develops a classification system for support and utility structures, partially inventories 35,077 structures, provides a methodology for evaluating NRHP significance, and makes recommendations for treatment. Building types included are: general storage, ordnance storage, fuel storage, water supply systems, sewage disposal systems, power and heating systems, and refuse disposal. It covers the Military Services from 1917 to 1946 in a nationwide context.

In September of 1993, the USS Tecumseh Conference convened aboard the battleship USS Alabama in Mobile. The conference was held to discuss the future management and protection of Tecumseh. Conference attendees developed this draft plan. It addresses the ship not as an isolated site, but within her historical, geographical, and technological context, and outlines options and recommendations for protection and preservation.
